Dr.C:

All right, so it is Thursday morning. What is today? September 4th, September 4th.

Dr.C:

I'm on my way to work and I'm in the car driving. I have the air on because I'm having a hot flash. Whoa, these hot flashes.

Dr.C:

And as you all know, I have started a new podcast called Life Podcast. Learn, inspire, flourish, and evolve. And one of the things that one of the listeners said is, you know, this is great, but we know nothing about you.

Dr.C:

You know you don't appear on the cover art, you're not really on the website it just says Dr. C but it doesn't say much; you know you need to let people know who you are and so that they can engage with you and want to follow you

Dr.C:

And ironically I was like well the reason why I didn't do that because I didn't want it to be about me right because to me the reason why I started the podcast was not not Not to like big myself up.

Dr.C:

It was really, or it is, to share wellness information and empower others to take control of their lives and understanding that, you know, don't beat yourself up.

Dr.C:

Wellness is not about perfection. Wellness is about investment.

Dr.C:

Yeah, you're investing in your future. You're investing in your longevity and your livelihood. You're investing in the quality of your life. So we have so much power in how we show up.

Dr.C:

We have so much power in what we manifest in our own lives. So I wanted to find a way to get it out to the masses, right? I do a lot of presentations. I talk to a lot of people, a workplace wellness consultant.

Dr.C:

So I work with leaders for their burnout recovery, but also I work with leaders so that they can look at their organization in a way that values employee wellness and creates an environment that shows that they value employee wellness.

Dr.C:

So there's minimal work that you need to do or minimal cost in order to create an environment that's burnout free. And, you know, a lot of people say, well, that's a big claim, you know, that you can create an environment that's burnout free.

Dr.C:

And I said, yeah, it's definitely a big claim, but doable. As long as you know what the factors of workplace burnout are, then you can do it. can, you can mitigate that. You can absolutely mitigate that and then teach your employees how to take care of themselves. So I do that a lot.

Dr.C:

And I just decided like, how do I get that out to the masses? It's not about making millions of dollars by charging people to consult and to help them with their burnout, but it's truly about helping people.

Dr.C:

So When I think about my own wellness journey, man, I'm telling you, I'm still working. Every day. Every day, I am still working, being positive, having a growth mindset, intentionally setting up my day so that I can see the positives, the blessings, and all the resources that I have available to me in order to have the best day possible, right?

Dr.C:

So I was working with a CEO for burnout recovery and one morning I Well, we had a session scheduled for like nine o'clock. And one of the things we had been working on is her doing her morning affirmations, like really intentionally setting the tone of her day. And so when she checked in at nine o'clock, you know, we were on Zoom and she just didn't look like herself. Something seemed off.

Dr.C:

And so, you know, we're going through the yada yada, you know, kind of looking at some action items and going through that. Of course, you know, we had her niceties. How you doing? the morning, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Oh my God. And then we got into the business of it. And, um, She was, I had asked her a question on a policy that they were working on at her organization.

Dr.C:

And she seemed really frustrated in trying to answer the question. And I just paused and I didn't respond right away. So there was some silence and she said, what's wrong? And I said,

Dr.C:

well, I actually was going to ask you that question. You seem a little off this morning. And she kind of put her head down in shame and she said, I didn't do my morning affirmations and I just feel completely off. And I said, that's wonderful.

Dr.C:

Oh my God, I'm so happy to hear that. And she was, she put her head up because I think she thought that I was going to be like, shame, shame, you know. And I was like, that's amazing. That's great. And she said, what? What do you mean that's amazing?

Dr.C:

And I said, well, if you feel off, that means you have gained some benefits from your morning affirmations. That's amazing. That's a great thing because now you realize, right, the impact. And she just, her shoulders, you know, straightened up and her, puffed her chest out, her chin high.

Dr.C:

And she said, you know what? You're right. She goes, and thank you so much for not shaming me. I said, oh, honey, I'm not going to shame you. I forget my morning affirmations sometimes too, sometimes on purpose because I'm in a funky mood and I don't want to get out of it, right? I want to sit in it.

Dr.C:

And so, yeah, this is what wellness is all about. It's not about perfection. It's about an intentional investment.

Dr.C:

So we had a good laugh. And then I said to her, you know, would you like to do your morning affirmations now? Yeah. And, you know, we could do them together. And she was like, oh, I have never done my morning affirmations with anyone. I said, yeah, it's a collaborative, you know, activity you could do with your spouse or your children. And so she was like, oh, wow. Okay. Why didn't you tell me this before?

Dr.C:

So we went through a process where I asked her four questions and she asked me the four questions. And so we did our morning affirmations.

Dr.C:

Now, It was an amazing moment, right? Amazing moment of like an epiphany, an aha moment that she had where she realized that she had been doing her morning affirmations probably for about three months now. And it hadn't been consistent in the way she was doing it, meaning some mornings she did it in her head while taking a shower. Some mornings she actually wrote it out in a journal. Some mornings she did it on the way to work. But she... Always did something. And this morning she had it. She was in a hurry. We later realized she was in a funky mood, right? And she just didn't do it.

Dr.C:

So I tell you this story to really amplify the message of wellness is not about perfection. Wellness is about investment, an intentional daily investment.

Dr.C:

Now that looks different depending on who you are, where you are, what your opportunities are throughout the day or in the morning. But be intentional.

Dr.C:

Start with one small step. Write down what you're grateful for. I have realized in my coaching that A micro step can have such a huge impact.

Dr.C:

And if you listen to the very first podcast episode, Small Steps, it really walks you through all eight dimensions of wellness and then walks you through a quick micro step activity at the end of the episode. Expressing gratitude is a immune booster, all right?

Dr.C:

Extending gratitude helps you see the good. It helps train your brain to point out all the blessings and all the great opportunities you may have in front of you, around you, accessible to you.

Dr.C:

So start with one small step. What are you grateful for?

Dr.C:

I'll tell you what I'm grateful for. I'm grateful for the opportunity to be able to drive, be able to take myself wherever I need to go. I'm grateful that I have a car that can get me there. But one of the things I do know is even if I didn't have a car, I know that I would be able to get to wherever I need to get to. Not because I got it like that, but because I could take the bus. I could get an Uber or Lyft. I could also call on my social network.

Dr.C:

And we're going to be having a session on the importance of having a strong social network because that all is an immune fighting, immune boosting system, right?

Dr.C:

It's an investment in your own longevity, in your own livelihood, having a strong social network.

Dr.C:

So stop saying you don't like people. Stop saying you don't need friends because that is not true.

Dr.C:

The science says that we do need that connection.

Dr.C:

All right. I've talked enough this morning. This is in response to a listener that's, I just want to know a little bit more about you. And I don't know if I necessarily did that with this, but I do know that I'll be doing more of these on my way to work in the morning.

Dr.C:

Just kind of some thoughts, random thoughts in my head. And yeah, let's get it.

Dr.C:

Have a great day. Set your intention for today.

Dr.C:

Today is a fantastic day. It won't be, don't say it will be. Claim it, set it, right? I'm not going going to say today will be a fantastic day because then I'm leaving it up to it might be no today is a fantastic day everything is going to work out in my favor I am highly blessed and I have everything I need to get through today that's it

Dr.C:

That's my intention that I'm setting for today. I have everything I need to get through today.

Dr.C:

Not worried about tomorrow. I'm not worried about next week. Present time.

Dr.C:

I have everything I need to get through today.

Dr.C:

Today is a fantastic day. Until next time.
